Why Hustle Culture Is Dead
“Work harder, build your side hustle, and you’ll get ahead.” That’s pretty much the trap I’ve been talking about for years… work harder, work longer, that is the path to success.
It’s what my generation was brought up on. It still pervades our way of thinking and working in North America and, in many ways, the whole world. We hear that messaging everywhere.
From old school business mentors, the “business gurus”, the news, all over social media, TV shows, movies, even your colleagues, your neighbours… everywhere!
It’s the hustle culture.
It’s been burning us out, driving us into the ground, breaking apart our families, and killing us… quite literally!
But that narrative is changing and it’s about time and it’s the millennials who are leading the charge.
My generation thought them to just be lazy. They are not. They have successfully broken the generational curse.
The curse was handed down from the generation before us. The one that my generation could not consciously see. The one that has so many still struggling, wishing things were different.
Every generation needs to learn from the ones before. They need to take the good and make it better. They need to let go and change the rest. That’s what the millennials and generations after are beginning to do.
Here’s how they’re breaking this specific generational curse.
