Sitting Is The New Smoking

We’ve known for decades the detrimental impact of smoking, yet many still just don’t get it. Today, I want to address a hidden threat many of us face as business owners that can also have a very detrimental impact on your work and your life; sitting. It's easy to get caught up in your daily grind that hours slip by at your desk, and it turns out that extended sitting isn’t just a minor inconvenience—it’s a real health hazard.

Sitting is the new smoking!

Research like the Annals of Internal Medicine (2015) meta-analysis by Biswas and colleagues, has increasingly shown that prolonged sitting is linked with up to a 40% higher risk of cardiovascular events suggesting that it can even reduce life expectancy, much like smoking does.

Canada isn’t perfect — no place is — but it has given me freedoms, choices, and opportunities that so many people around the world may never experience. For that, I’m deeply gratef...
Sockless Summers
It was the last day of school and every one of us could hardly wait for the final bell and the beginning of summer holidays! School was done for another year. The sockless summer had officially begun.  It was 1973 and back in those days shoes and socks were strictly taboo in the summer. We spent a lot of t...
Incremental Wins
If you want a different experience, it starts with doing things differently. Repeating the same patterns that no longer serve you (or maybe never did) won’t create the change you want. Yet, out of habit, we often do just that. To grow, you need to break those habits and replace them with ones that align with your goals and vision. Sounds simple, right? Stop the old. Start the new. Done.   But ...
