But I did it for you
Business owners and career professionals are notorious for working long hours into the evenings and over weekends. Periodically this is necessary, especially in the early stages of getting to the point of sustainability. Sometimes though, it leads to neglecting your family and thinking you are doing it for the right reasons.
Then it becomes habit and the path ahead is unsustainable.
One of the ways it stays a habit is through the rationalization of your inner voice repeatedly saying… “but I did it for you.”
You work long hours telling yourself you are doing it to:
- Buy your spouse nice things
- Get your kids everything they want
- Deliver your family the lifestyle they want
But you’re never there. And if you are, you are either so tired you cannot really engage in anything meaningful or your head is actually still back at the office.
What isn’t said or not loud or often enough is this.
Things really don’t matter that much. They just want you there. Not always, but more.
Maybe you simply miss or dismiss those comments.
I hear stories like these all the time from adults about their spouses or from kids about their parents. Unfortunately it leads to unhappiness of everyone involved. It sometimes leads to poor decisions and families falling apart and that is such a sad result.
It doesn’t have to be that way. This can change, if you want it to. It’s not easy but it can happen… before it’s too late and you’re headed to divorce or your kids essentially disowning you.
If you are struggling, contact me. Having meaningful connection with those you love while also growing a thriving business or career is possible. I’ll show you how.
Until next time… be healthy, be happy, and live fully!
